People of Gleadless

Portrait Project

Welcome to the People of Gleadless Project - October 2025

Thanks for visiting. I’ve made this page to tell you about the People of Gleadless Project I’ve just started.

I’m a photographer and community artist. I love photographing people and I have an idea to make a series of photographs about the people of Gleadless in Sheffield. I’m offering a free portrait session to anyone who’d like a photograph of themselves, or their family, their neighbours, their best mate, anyone important really. Even their dog.

So you’d get a free portrait session and a print of the image afterwards to do what you want with. And if you agree, I’d include you in my series of photographs of people (and maybe the odd dog) living in the valley.

Here are some questions you might have about the project:

What kind of images will you make?

This is a portrait project, so we’d meet up, find an interesting place and then we’d make a photo together. You would sit or stand in front of the camera, and I’d take a few pictures. I’m going to make these pictures on an old fashioned film camera, so then I’d go and develop the pictures and together we’d select the best one to print.

What will you do with the images?

You get a free print, and I’d like to show them to other people. This could be online, likely on this website, or even better, in a local exhibition, but this isn’t confirmed yet. You could even write a bit about yourself to go with your photo if you like. I’m flexible, but it’s true that I would like to share the images I make. It’s quite important to be able to do that as photography is really about sharing your images with other people.

What about children and young people?

I’d love to photograph young people as part of this project, but of course this would only be if they want to take part, and importantly, after getting consent from parents or carers for anyone under 16.

Do you have a DBS?

Yes I do, and I also have insurance. As well as being a photographer I’m also a community worker, so I have lots of experience of working with families and young people in Gleadless. I’m really involved in fILMfAM, a local film and photography group, and I’ve also worked with Happy Saplings Toddlers and with the TARA to put on photography workshops for young people in Gleadless.

I’m interested. What do I do now?

Call or text me: 07884 054 574 and lets take it from there.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope we can make some photographs together!
